Florida tow and storage papers can follow the car

A Florida tow can feel like a parking problem at first. The paperwork can keep going after the car leaves the lot.

Tow companies can claim a lien for reasonable towing and storage fees. FLHSMV’s lien page also points to notice papers that can go to owners, lienholders, and insurance companies when a vehicle or vessel is headed toward a lien sale path.

That is why the small details matter. Save the tow company name, storage-lot address, phone number, date, time, location, photos, signs, police or property contact, receipt, release paper, and payment record.

If the vehicle has a loan, lease, company owner, out-of-state title, or insurance claim, the paper trail can involve more than the driver who parked it. A delay can add storage costs, so start with the tow company and the paperwork in hand.

This does not mean every tow becomes a title problem. Most should not. It means a clean file helps you move faster if the tow turns into more than a ride to the storage yard.
