Melbourne permit history has a legacy search
Melbourne keeps current and legacy permit records in different search lanes. An older roof, addition, or repair may need both.
One permit search may be too new for an older house project.
Melbourne’s public portal has permits, plans, inspections, code cases, requests, and licenses. Older work has a second door. The city currently labels a legacy permit search for applications from 1989 through 2020. It labels code cases as 2021-current and planning records as 2020-current.
For land inside Melbourne, search the exact address in both permit paths when the work crosses those dates. Match the results to the roof, windows, pool, addition, panel, or changed room you can see. If the work may be older than the online history, ask the Building Section where to look next.
An issued permit is not the same as a final inspection. Open the inspection history and look for a final inspection that fits the work. A search with no result is also not proof that no work occurred.
Save the permit number, work description, inspection history, and closeout with the house file. Nearby cities and unincorporated Brevard keep other records. Confirm the city boundary before using Melbourne’s portal.
