Cars and driving
Florida visiting-driver checks start before the rental counter
Florida visitors should bring a valid license for the driver and check rental-company rules before the first toll road or airport exit.
Florida visitors can land, rent a car, and reach a busy road before the bags are fully sorted.
For a Florida drive, the driver needs a valid license in that driver’s name. The license should come from the place where the driver lives. Visitors from another country should keep the home-country license close while driving.
The rental counter can have its own rules. That is a separate check. Ask about driver age, extra drivers, insurance choices, toll billing, payment cards, and any license translation or document rule before the trip.
This comes up fast at airports in Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Palm Beach. The road rule and the rental rule are related, but they are not the same.
Before travel, put the license, passport, rental reservation, toll plan, and payment card in one small file. If more than one person may drive, make sure each driver is listed with the rental company.
A little paper check before the flight can make the first Florida drive much calmer.
