Florida unclaimed property starts with the official search

Florida's unclaimed property search is an official state path, so residents should check it before paying a finder or trusting a random message.

Unclaimed property is one of those Florida money errands that feels almost too simple to be real.

Old bank accounts, checks, deposits, insurance payments, refunds, and other property can end up with the state when the owner cannot be found. Florida’s official Treasure Hunt site is the place to start before paying a private finder or trusting a text that says money is waiting.

Search with old names, maiden names, nicknames, past Florida addresses, and business names if they apply. If someone contacts you first, slow down. Check the official state information, ask what fee they want, and do not send personal papers through a link you did not choose yourself.

The search may find nothing, and that is fine. It is still a quick yearly habit that can turn an old account into a small surprise without handing the errand to a stranger.
