Florida replacement plates and decals need the right form

A lost Florida plate, damaged plate, missing decal, or parking-permit replacement is easier when the owner starts with the current FLHSMV form and county counter.

A missing plate decal can feel small until the tag month is already busy.

Florida has a replacement path for a license plate, validation decal, or parking permit. FLHSMV points people to replacement registration information and Form HSMV 83146 for several replacement situations. The county tax collector or license plate agent is often the practical counter for the errand.

The important part is to sort the problem before driving around on a bad guess. Was the plate lost, stolen, damaged, or just hard to read? Is the decal missing? Did the address change before the replacement arrived? Is there a registration stop that has to clear first?

Bring the plate number, vehicle details, ID, current registration if you have it, and any police or insurance note that fits the situation. Then keep the receipt with the registration folder. It is not a dramatic errand, but it is one of those little car papers that is much easier to fix early.
