Selling a car in Florida means filing the sale and pulling the plate

Florida private vehicle sales need title transfer, a Notice of Sale, and careful plate handling so the seller is not left tied to the car.

In Florida, selling the car is not the same as being finished with the car.

The title work matters, and so does the Notice of Sale. FLHSMV points sellers to form HSMV 82050 so the state record shows the vehicle was sold. The seller also takes the license plate off the vehicle. In Florida, the plate stays with the seller, not the car.

Those two steps are easy to overlook in a driveway sale. They are also the steps that can help keep tolls, tickets, crashes, or other later problems from feeling tied to the wrong person.

Before handing over the keys, check the FLHSMV selling-a-vehicle page. Confirm the title, odometer, buyer information, lien status, Notice of Sale, and plate plan. A motor vehicle service center can be the cleaner place to finish the transfer, especially if either side is unsure about the paperwork.
