Florida registration renewal follows the birthday calendar

Florida tag renewal is easy to miss because it does not feel like a holiday or school date.

For many personal cars, the registration ends at midnight on the first owner’s birthday. Keep that date in your phone or paper calendar. Businesses, heavy trucks, mobile homes, boats, and some other records can run on different dates, so check those records on their own.

A simple renewal can often be handled for one or two years. Many owners can renew up to three months before the end date. Online or mobile renewal may work when the record is simple. Insurance, address, title, or owner-name issues can send the errand back to a service center or tax collector.

Before birthday month, check the plate, VIN, insurance record, mailing address, and owner name. If no renewal notice arrives, still check the record. The tag date is what counts.
