River of Lakes Heritage Corridor links Central Florida by water and road

River of Lakes Heritage Corridor is a scenic byway through Lake, Volusia, and Seminole counties where older towns, rivers, springs, and roads sit close together.

River of Lakes Heritage Corridor is a good reminder that Central Florida is not only exits, theme parks, and fast growth.

The scenic byway runs through parts of Lake, Volusia, and Seminole counties. Florida Scenic Highways ties the route to roads near the St. Johns River, lakes, older towns, springs, parks, and local history. From Sanford and DeLand to smaller stops along the way, the drive makes the middle of the state feel less like a pass-through.

The useful part is how much it explains at once. A newcomer may see the Orlando area as one wide metro map. This corridor shows a slower layer: river towns, courthouse squares, old rail and road patterns, state parks, and water that shaped where people settled.

If you make a day of it, do not try to cover every mile. Pick one section, check the local stop pages, and give yourself time to get out of the car. The road is the thread, but the small places along it are the point.
