Ozello Trail turns Citrus County into a marsh road

Ozello Trail is a Crystal River-area drive where County Road 494 bends through preserve land, salt marsh, seafood stops, and Gulf-side water.

Ozello Trail is the kind of side road that can change the whole feel of a Gulf Coast day.

It starts near the Crystal River and Homosassa area, then follows County Road 494 out toward the Ozello community. The road is not long, but it does not move in a straight hurry. It bends through Crystal River Preserve State Park land, low marsh, small bridges, boat water, and seafood stops before reaching Ozello Community Park near the Gulf.

That is why it earns space as a driving note, not just a pretty detour. A map may make it look like a small spur off U.S. 19, but the drive is more of an out-and-back mood. Leave time to go slowly, watch the turns, and let faster local traffic pass when there is room. After a hard rain or a king tide, low coastal roads can also feel different than they did the week before.

For visitors, it pairs well with Crystal River, Homosassa Springs, or a water day. Check weather and road conditions before treating it like a simple add-on. For locals, it is a reminder that Florida’s road map still has little fingers of pavement that run toward marsh, boats, and a plate of seafood instead of another interchange.
