Florida private well water is an owner check after storms

Homes on private wells need a different water plan than homes served by a public utility, especially after flooding or repairs.

A private well is part of the house, not a city water account.

That means the owner has more responsibility for testing, maintenance, and storm cleanup. After flooding, heavy rain, power loss, repairs, or a change in taste, smell, or color, the water question should move near the top of the list. A well can look fine from the yard while the water still needs a check.

This matters in rural Florida, edge suburbs, older lake areas, and homes outside utility service. It also matters for buyers. A home inspection may not answer every water-quality question unless testing is ordered and the well equipment is reviewed.

Start with Florida Health and EPA private well guidance. Ask the county health department or a licensed well professional what test fits the situation. Keep well records, pump details, treatment equipment papers, and lab results with the home file.
