Florida insurance guaranty associations are a backup file
Florida has guaranty associations for some insurance-company insolvency situations, but the right path depends on the policy type and claim.
Most people do not think about guaranty associations until an insurer is already in trouble.
Florida has different backup paths for different kinds of insurance. Property and casualty claims can point toward FIGA. Life, health, and annuity questions can point toward FLAHIGA. Workers comp and HMO files have their own lanes too.
This is not a regular claims desk. It is also not a way to shop for a policy. It is a backup path for some covered claims after an insurer fails and is ordered into liquidation. The answer can depend on the company, the policy, the claim, and the receiver’s instructions.
If a notice says an insurer is in receivership or liquidation, save every paper. Keep the policy, claim number, proof of payment, adjuster messages, cancellation letters, and receiver notice together.
Start with Florida DFS receivership information. Then use the guaranty association named for that policy type. A calm file helps the next call start in the right place.
