A Florida lawyer check needs good standing and eligibility
For an ordinary Florida legal matter, match the lawyer's identity and confirm both good standing and eligibility to practice in The Florida Bar directory.
Before paying or sending private papers, search the lawyer’s full name in The Florida Bar list. Match the person, Bar number, phone, and office through a source you found on your own.
For a common Florida legal matter, look for two lines on the profile. It should say “Member in Good Standing” and “Eligible to Practice Law in Florida.” Good standing alone is not enough. Some judges and other members can keep that status even when they cannot take a normal client matter. A few limited paths also exist, so check the stated power when the usual member record does not fit.
Open the 10-Year Discipline History on the profile as well. “None” means no public discipline appears in that ten-year window. It does not rule out an older order, a private or open complaint, or a concern the list cannot test. The Bar tells you how to ask for older public records.
This check confirms identity and the right to practice. It does not judge skill, fit, price, or legal plan. Keep the result with the fee agreement, work terms, and due dates. If the lawyer called you first, call back through the Bar listing or another trusted source.
