Orange blossom is the state flower behind citrus season

Orange blossom is Florida's state flower, a small white bloom that keeps citrus, bees, groves, and spring air tied together.

Orange blossom is a small state symbol, but it carries a lot of Florida with it.

The flower itself is simple: pale, fragrant, and easy to miss if you only think about the fruit. The bigger story is what grows around it. Citrus means groves, packing houses, bees, freezes, research, roadside stands, juice, family land, and the old inland economy that shaped many Central Florida towns.

Polk County is a good place to feel that history. Lake Alfred and Winter Haven already carry strong citrus and food stories in the site, and orange blossom fits beside them. The flower points to the quiet moment before the fruit, before the crate label, and before the glass of orange juice.

If you are trying to see that side of Florida, check local citrus stops and festival dates instead of assuming a grove will be open. Many groves are working land. The state flower is pretty, but it is also tied to real farm work.

Where to see it
