Miami-Dade local meal taxes can explain a receipt

Some Miami-Dade meal receipts can include local tax lines, so diners and businesses should check the county path before assuming a mistake.

Miami-Dade has a local meal-tax setup most counties do not have.

Florida Revenue shows Miami-Dade as the only county now eligible for these taxes. One part can apply to meals and drinks sold in hotels or motels. Another part can apply to some places that sell alcohol to drink there. Miami Beach, Surfside, and Bal Harbour have their own resort tax path, so the answer can change by place.

If you are dining out, read the receipt before assuming a mistake. The extra line may be tied to the address, the type of place, or whether alcohol is sold for use there.

If you run a business, do not copy another shop’s setup. Miami-Dade moved collection of these taxes to a county business section in 2024. The county notice points covered businesses to monthly returns, even for a month with no tax collected.

Before setting up a register, menu system, or filing habit, check the current Miami-Dade page and Florida Revenue local option tax page. A bar, hotel cafe, caterer, room-service setup, or event space can land differently on paper.
