Miami-Dade storm surge zones are an address check
Miami-Dade storm surge zones are separate from flood zones, so hurricane planning should start with the exact address.
In Miami-Dade, storm surge zones and flood zones are not the same thing.
The county’s storm surge information uses zones A through E for hurricane planning. The zones are based on possible surge. Evacuation can change with the storm track and forecast. Zone A has the highest surge exposure, but the actual order depends on the storm.
This is why a home, condo, rental, or family address should be checked directly. A person in a mobile home, a low area, or a medically sensitive situation may also need a different plan than the neighbor across the street.
Use the county storm surge tool before hurricane season. Save the address result, evacuation route, shelter or host plan, medicine list, pet plan, and county alert source. During a storm, follow the county order and current emergency message, not an old memory of the zone.
