Jacksonville St. Johns River Ferry is a real route choice

The St. Johns River Ferry can change a Jacksonville coastal drive, but schedules, fares, weather, and service notices need a fresh check.

The St. Johns River Ferry is not just a tourist extra. For the right trip, it can be a real route choice.

The ferry connects the Mayport and Fort George sides of the river. That can make A1A, the beaches, Timucuan-area stops, and northside coastal drives feel more connected. It also gives Jacksonville a reminder that the river is not only something you cross on a bridge.

Check JTA before you build the day around it. The schedule, fare, vehicle rules, weather, maintenance, and service notices can change whether the ferry saves time or becomes the slow part of the trip. Have a bridge route in mind if the timing does not work.

For visitors, it is a pleasant piece of Jacksonville. For locals, it can be a useful shortcut. Either way, the ferry works best when the clock is checked first.
