HSMV 82994 is a secure title-reassignment form

Florida posts HSMV 82994 as a sample only; the secure form is handled through a dealer or, for some electronic-title sales, at a motor vehicle office.

Do not print HSMV 82994 from the web and treat it like an ordinary blank title form. The FLHSMV forms list marks the posted copy sample only. HSMV 82994 is a secure title-reassignment form that carries ownership and odometer information.

Dealers use HSMV 82994 in several title chains. For example, the form may be needed when an electronic title is traded or sold to a Florida dealer, when the title has no reassignment space left, or when it lacks the required odometer section. In those cases, the dealer or motor vehicle office should supply the correct secure paper, so a buyer should not be sent to download a blank copy.

There is also a private-sale path for an electronic title. When the buyer agrees to leave the title electronic, the FLHSMV title-transfer procedure sends both people to a tax collector or license plate agency. For a vehicle still covered by odometer rules, they complete HSMV 82994 there. Both people must be present with photo identification. An odometer-exempt vehicle, vessel, or mobile home may use HSMV 82092 instead.

A paper-title sale is different. The seller normally completes the transfer section on the title rather than using HSMV 82994. Before the handoff, check whether the title is paper or electronic, whether a lien remains, and which office will process the sale. That small check tells you who provides the form and keeps a sample PDF from becoming the wrong paperwork.
