Florida shore-based shark fishing starts with the course

Florida shore-based shark fishing has its own course and permit path, so beach, bridge, and pier plans should start before the rod is packed.

Shark fishing from shore is not just a bigger rod and a longer night on the beach.

FWC puts the Shark-Smart Fishing course and the Shore-based Shark Fishing permit together for people fishing for sharks from shore. The page also points anglers back to shark rules, harvestable and prohibited species, and tagged-shark information. That makes this a separate check from the normal saltwater license question.

Keep the course, permit, saltwater license if one applies, gear plan, species rules, local beach or pier rule, and release tools in the same fishing folder. If a friend is joining, check their papers too. One person having the right setup does not clean up the whole group.

Start with the FWC shark page before choosing the spot. Then check the local beach, bridge, pier, parking, night-access, and lighting rules. A shore trip is easier when the paper and place both match the plan.
