Florida nonprofit donation registration is separate from Sunbiz

A Florida nonprofit filing can put an organization on Sunbiz, but donation solicitation can still have a separate FDACS registration lane.

Starting a Florida nonprofit can feel like one filing lane, but it can split quickly. Sunbiz handles the corporation filing. That creates or updates the entity record. It does not, by itself, settle every question about asking for donations.

Florida’s nonprofit filing page points donation questions to FDACS. That can matter for a school booster group, animal rescue, arts group, neighborhood effort, or small charity that plans to ask people in Florida for money. The group may be small, but the paper trail still counts.

Before collecting donations, check the Sunbiz record, FDACS registration lane, renewal date, exemption questions, and who will keep receipts. A clean setup also helps donors feel more comfortable. For raffle tickets, gala seats, or small fundraiser items, the public registration path gives one more way to check who is asking. Keep the Sunbiz and FDACS papers together.
