A Florida evacuation zone is an address check

Florida evacuation planning works best at the address level, because zones, structures, and local orders do not all mean the same thing.

A Florida evacuation zone is not a mood about a whole city. It is an address check.

Florida Disaster asks residents to know whether they live in an evacuation zone, a low-lying flood-prone area, a mobile home, or a structure that may not be strong enough for the weather. The map starts with an address because storm surge and local orders can be very specific.

The colored zones help local officials explain which areas may need to leave for a particular storm. Not every zone is ordered every time. The storm track, surge forecast, house type, medical needs, and local emergency message can all change the right plan.

Use the state zone tool before hurricane season, then confirm details with the county emergency management office. Save the zone, route, shelter options, pet plan, medicine list, and document bag in one place. When a storm is close, follow the local order rather than an old screenshot.
