Rules and licenses

Florida alcohol and tobacco licenses start with ABT

Florida's ABT division handles many alcohol, tobacco, and nicotine licenses and permits, so events and businesses should check that lane early.

Alcohol and tobacco rules in Florida are not just a bar-owner problem.

The ABT division handles many licenses and permits for alcohol, tobacco, and nicotine sales. That can mean making, importing, storing, selling, or moving those items for a business. ABT also posts event forms, fee charts, local office contacts, and temporary permit details.

This can come up in Miami nightlife, a Tampa restaurant, a Key West event, or a small-town package store. It can also matter for a brewery, charity event, private club, caterer, nicotine shop, or buyer taking over an old spot.

One license may fit only one address, owner, or use. A new plan may need a fresh review. Check ABT before signing a lease that depends on alcohol sales. Then check zoning, distance rules, local business tax receipts, fire review, and food rules.

For a one-day event, start early. Know who holds the permit. Know where drinks can be served, who checks age, and what records should be kept.
