Florida agricultural classification starts with March 1

Florida agricultural property classification is handled through the county property appraiser, and the state form points to a March 1 filing date.

Florida’s agricultural classification is a property tax topic, not just a rural nickname.

Agricultural land can be one type of classified-use assessment. In simple terms, land may be assessed below just value if it meets the legal test. The application goes to the county property appraiser.

The state form points to the big date. The filing deadline is March 1 for the current tax year. The form asks about acres, use, livestock, timber, citrus, cropland, income, expenses, leases, and farm equipment tax filings.

For a landowner, the question is not just “does this look agricultural?” It is whether the use and records support the request. The January 1 facts matter too, because the form asks what the land was used for as of that date.

If you buy acreage, lease pasture, plant citrus, keep livestock, or change land use, talk to the county property appraiser early. Check what proof your county wants before March 1 sneaks up.
