Curry Hammock keeps the Middle Keys a little wilder

Curry Hammock State Park gives Marathon a Middle Keys park with beach, paddling, camping, seagrass, mangroves, and a rare undeveloped stretch.

Curry Hammock State Park gives Marathon a quieter piece of the Middle Keys.

Florida State Parks describes it as the largest undeveloped parcel between Key Largo and Big Pine Key. That matters in a place where the road, bridges, marinas, hotels, and neighborhoods can make every open stretch feel valuable.

The park protects mangrove swamp, rockland hammock, seagrass beds, beach, and shallow water habitat. On calmer days, it can be a paddling or beach stop. On windier days, kiteboarders may become part of the scene. Campers also use the park as a simple base in the Keys, where space is not always easy to find.

Check current conditions before you go. Beach water-quality advisories, wind, paddling conditions, camping availability, fees, hours, and closures can change what kind of day Curry Hammock offers.

For Marathon, the park keeps a bit of the Middle Keys from feeling fully built out. It gives the island chain breathing room.
