Circle B Bar Reserve is Lakeland's wildlife edge
Circle B Bar Reserve gives Lakeland and Polk County a county-run conservation stop on Lake Hancock.
Circle B Bar Reserve gives Lakeland a wilder edge without leaving the county park system.
The reserve sits on the northwest shore of Lake Hancock and covers more than 1,200 acres. It was once a cattle ranch, and Polk County and the water management district acquired it in 2000. Today the site is known for trails, marsh views, birds, wildlife, and a nature center setting that feels close to the city but not urban.
The rules are part of the place. Polk County’s page includes limits such as no pets, no fishing, no balloons, and no music. Those details help protect wildlife and keep the visit calmer for everyone on the trails.
Check hours before you go, because they shift with the season. Bring water, use the posted trail map, and give wildlife plenty of room. Circle B works best as a quiet walking and viewing place, not a place to test how close you can get to an animal.
