Florida Southern keeps Frank Lloyd Wright in plain sight

Florida Southern College gives Lakeland a major Frank Lloyd Wright story that many visitors do not expect in Central Florida.

Lakeland has a surprise sitting right on a college campus.

Florida Southern College traces Frank Lloyd Wright’s first visit to the campus to 1938. Over more than 20 years, Wright delivered 18 building designs for the college, and 13 were built. The college describes the campus as the world’s largest single-site collection of Wright work for one client.

For Lakeland, this story feels different from the usual Central Florida shorthand. It is not a beach note, a theme-park note, or a lakefront note. It is a design story tucked into a working campus.

If you want to see it, check the college’s current visitor center, tour times, campus rules, parking, and accessibility details. Some people will be happy with a short walk. Others will want a guided tour. Either way, the campus helps Lakeland feel more layered than it looks from the highway.
