Blackwater River State Forest is Milton's big inland map
Blackwater River State Forest gives Milton and Santa Rosa County a large inland forest and river anchor.
Blackwater River State Forest gives Santa Rosa County a big inland identity behind the Gulf map.
FDACS presents it as one of Florida’s largest state forests. The Blackwater River runs through the forest toward Blackwater Bay near Milton, with a sand-bottom stream, longleaf pine country, trails, camping, and recreation areas. The forest also connects with the Florida Scenic Trail and the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail.
For Milton, the forest keeps the area from feeling like a town on the way to somewhere else. The river and woods give it a roomy public-land side, with roads, fees, fire status, and maps that matter.
Check FDACS before you go. Confirm day-use fees, camping, forest roads, river access, fire status, closures, and hunting or recreation notices. A state forest is not managed like a small city park. It works best when you know the entrance, route, and backup plan before you lose cell service.
