Little Big Econ State Forest makes the Econ River feel nearby
Little Big Econ State Forest gives Seminole County an easy-to-miss river, forest, trail, and paddling landscape near Oviedo and Geneva.
Little Big Econ State Forest is a good reminder that the Orlando side of Florida still has quiet river edges.
The forest sits near Oviedo and Geneva, along the Econlockhatchee River corridor. FDACS lists it as a state forest of about 11,696 acres, established in 1994. That gives Seminole County a public-land layer that feels very different from the nearby road, school, and subdivision map.
The name can make the place sound small, but the day can be simple or full. Some people go for a shaded walk. Others build a bike ride, horseback ride, paddle, wildlife stop, or longer forest loop. The river is the thread that makes it feel connected.
Do not treat every access point as the same outing. State forests can have separate trailheads, parking areas, day-use rules, hunting-season details, fees, and temporary closures. A quick map check saves a lot of guesswork.
Little Big Econ works best when the plan leaves room to slow down. The river bends, sandy trails, palmettos, and pine shade are the point.
