ABLE United is Florida's disability savings lane

ABLE United gives eligible Floridians with disabilities a tax-advantaged savings path that can work alongside important benefits.

ABLE United can be a helpful money tool when the fit is right.

The account is for a person with a disability who meets the rules. The person needs to live in Florida when applying. The disability also needs to meet the age rule. For 2026, that rule looks at whether the disability began before age 46.

The point is saving with benefit rules in mind. For families dealing with SSI, Medicaid, housing, equipment, rides, work help, or daily care costs, normal savings can raise hard questions. An ABLE account is built for that world.

This is still a money account, so do not treat it like a simple bank jar. Check who can open it, fees, investment choices, deposit rules, spending rules, and who can manage the account. If another ABLE account already exists, ask about transfer rules before opening anything new.

For a Florida family, the first step is plain: check the rules with the person’s age, address, disability timing, and benefit situation in front of you.
