Six Mile Cypress Slough is Fort Myers' wetland classroom
Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve gives Fort Myers a boardwalk view into wetlands, wildlife, water storage, and quiet shade.
Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is one of the easiest places in Fort Myers to feel how wetlands work.
The boardwalk lets visitors move through shade, cypress, water, birds, turtles, and other wildlife without turning the trip into a backcountry hike. It is calm, but it is not just a pretty walk. The slough also helps store and move water, which makes it part of the larger Lee County landscape.
Check the Lee County page before going. Parking, boardwalk work, water levels, storm cleanup, wildlife activity, and visitor center hours can shape the visit. Bring water and bug spray, and give yourself time to stand still. Wetlands are easier to notice when you stop rushing.
For new residents, this preserve is a gentle lesson in Florida water. A place can be peaceful, useful, and fragile at the same time. If you only have an hour, the boardwalk still gives you a real feel for it.
