Palma Sola Scenic Highway makes the island drive part of the day

Palma Sola Scenic Highway uses part of Manatee Avenue West to connect Bradenton with the barrier-island side of Manatee County.

Palma Sola Scenic Highway is the kind of road where the beach day starts before the beach.

The route uses a piece of State Road 64, locally known as Manatee Avenue West, to connect the Bradenton mainland with the barrier-island side. Water, causeway edges, bay views, beach traffic, bikes, walkers, and island errands all gather along the same line.

That makes the drive useful to understand, not just pretty to look at. A visitor may think of it as the way to Anna Maria Island. A local may think of it as the grocery, work, school, dinner, fishing, or sunset road. On a calm morning it can feel open and easy. On a holiday, stormy afternoon, or bridge-delay day, the same road can ask for more patience.

Check parking, traffic, weather, and island notices before the trip. The better plan is to treat the causeway as part of the day instead of the thing to rush through.
