Live Oak's depot keeps Suwannee County near the tracks

The Suwannee County Historical Museum in Live Oak keeps the county's railroad, farm, and local-history story close to downtown.

Live Oak makes more sense when you remember the tracks.

Visit Suwannee places the Suwannee County Historical Museum in the old Atlantic Coast Line freight depot. The museum focuses on railroad, farm, and local history. Florida Memory adds another piece: the nearby Union Passenger Depot was built in 1909. It was moved in the 1980s, and the depot area is tied to the National Register.

That turns Live Oak from just another county seat into a railroad town with a memory you can still point to. The museum is not only about old objects. It helps explain why the city grew where it did. It also shows why downtown still feels tied to trade, travel, and the Suwannee River country around it.

Before stopping, check current museum hours and whether any special exhibits or walking-tour materials are available. A quick visit can give the rest of Suwannee County a stronger frame.
