Lafayette County development starts with Building Department
Lafayette County routes development questions through its Building Department, including permit and zoning checks.
In Lafayette County, the Building Department is the front door for more than construction paperwork.
Development questions can start there too. That includes permits, code enforcement, land use, zoning, and the Florida Building Code. On a rural lot, those pieces can stack up quickly.
Before you build, add on, move a mobile home, change a business space, or buy land for a project, ask what the county needs to see first. A fee page or permit form is helpful, but it does not tell you by itself whether the use, site, access, and inspections fit the property.
For work around Mayo or elsewhere in the county, keep the address, parcel, sketch, planned use, contractor name, and timing together. Ask early. One check can save several later trips and keep the project in the right lane.
This is especially helpful if you are new to rural land. A driveway, mobile home, shop, porch, or small business space may look simple on the ground, but the county still has to match the work to the site. Start with the Building Department and let the right next desk come from there.
