Florida wrong-way warnings mean the driver next to you needs space
Florida wrong-way driver alerts use signs, detection, and message boards, but the driver response is still simple: slow down, make room, and report when safe.
Wrong-way alerts are one of those road features you hope you do not need, but it helps to know what they mean.
FDOT uses countermeasures such as enhanced wrong-way signs, detection systems, alerts to officials, and messages on electronic boards. The technology is there to catch a bad movement quickly, but it does not make the moment automatic for everyone else on the road.
If you see a wrong-way warning or a driver coming the wrong direction, give yourself space first. Slow down, avoid sudden moves if traffic is tight, pull over when that is the safer option, and call 911 when you can do it safely. The goal is not to be brave. The goal is to make the road calmer for the next few seconds.
It should not make Florida driving feel impossible. It is just one more reason to leave room, read the signs, and treat electronic road messages as current information rather than background noise. Check the sign first, then give the situation more room than a normal lane change would need.
