Florida tanning facilities need the county health license

Florida tanning facilities need an operating license and county health inspection before the devices become part of the business.

In Florida, a tanning bed is not just another machine in the back room.

A business that opens a tanning facility needs an operating license. The same can be true when a business adds tanning devices to an existing place. County health offices inspect and approve facilities as part of that setup. Staff training is part of the same file.

That can matter in more places than a full tanning salon. A gym, spa, apartment amenity, resort, or beauty business may need to ask the tanning question before adding equipment. The address and device count are part of the file.

For a customer, look for a current license and basic instructions before using the device. For a business owner, start with the county health office before ordering equipment or advertising tanning as a new service. Plan the room, training, and inspection before the machine is already plugged in.
