Money and taxes

Florida sales tax registration should match each selling spot

A Florida sales tax account should be checked when a business adds a store, booth, address, county, market stand, or other selling location.

A Florida sales tax account can start out simple. It can get messy when the business starts moving around.

Florida ties sales tax registration to each business location. That can matter when a shop opens a second store. It can matter when a seller adds a market booth, a seasonal stand changes county, a rental uses a new address, or an online seller also makes local sales.

Check the account before the first sale from the new spot. Do not wait until the first return is due. By then, it can be hard to remember where each sale happened. County surtax rates, filing details, and account records can depend on location.

Keep a small location file. Include the legal business name, sales tax certificate number, selling address, mailing address, county, start date, filing schedule, and login. If the business changes owner, legal form, or physical location, use the official Revenue account-change path. Do not guess that an address edit is enough.

This is especially helpful for Florida businesses that pop up in different places. Think farmers markets, festivals, beach rentals, food stands, trade shows, art markets, and seasonal shops. The sale may feel casual at the counter. The account should still match the place where the business is working.
