Florida home education notice starts with the district

A Florida home education program starts with the school district where the family lives, then keeps evaluation and termination papers in the same folder.

Florida home education is more than a new school routine at home.

Start with the school district where the family lives. The state parent page points to three main papers: a letter of intent, a yearly review, and a letter to close the program.

State law points to a notice filed with the district within 30 days of starting. So the district contact is the first check. A family moving from one Florida county to another should not assume the old office handles the new address.

Keep the notice, district reply, student names, birth dates, address, yearly records, portfolio notes, test papers, and ending letter if the program closes. If the student uses virtual school, private classes, tutors, or dual enrollment, keep those papers nearby too.

This is a planning step, not a scare step. A clean file helps the family show dates, district contact, and progress if questions come up later.
