Florida dumpsters and storage containers need a placement check

A cleanup container can be easy on a driveway and harder near a street, sidewalk, or grassy right-of-way edge.

A dumpster or storage box is easy to rent. The harder part is choosing the right spot.

If it stays fully on private land, the question may be simple. If it reaches the street, sidewalk, swale, alley, grassy edge, or other right-of-way area, the city or county may treat it another way. Orlando has a right-of-way permit path for work in the street, under the sidewalk, or in the grassy area next to the street. Its fee schedule also lists a charge for storage boxes in the right-of-way.

For a cleanout, roof job, move, or remodel, choose the spot before delivery day. Ask the hauler where the truck can place it safely. Then check local right-of-way, trash, parking, HOA, and historic-district rules for the address.

Also ask what cannot go inside. Orlando’s roll-off page bars hazardous materials. A quick placement and material check can keep a cleanup from turning into a driveway, sidewalk, or pickup problem.
