Florida CDL medical certification is a commercial driver file
Every CDL holder chooses a work category, and drivers in a non-excepted category must also keep the required medical record current.
A Florida CDL is more than the card in your wallet. The state record also shows the kind of work you do and, when needed, whether your medical record is current.
Every CDL holder must choose one of four work groups. You tell the state whether you drive across state lines or only in Florida. You also say whether your work is excepted, which means it is excused from the usual medical rule. Together, those answers decide whether you need a current medical card.
A driver in a non-excepted group must meet the medical rule and keep the card current. If it expires and the state record is not updated, the driver can lose the right to drive a vehicle that needs a CDL.
After an exam, keep any paper certificate and check that the new end date appears in the state record. The examiner now sends CDL results online, but delays can happen, so the driver still needs to watch the record. If your work changes or you move to Florida, check the state’s current steps early.
