Donnelly House gives Mount Dora a Queen Anne landmark

Donnelly House ties Mount Dora's lake-town charm to its first mayor, downtown history, Queen Anne design, and National Register setting.

Mount Dora is easy to love for the lake, shops, hills, and shade. Donnelly House gives that charm a clear local address.

Captain John Philip Donnelly served as Mount Dora’s first mayor when the town was chartered in 1910. His 1893 Queen Anne-style home still stands downtown. Donnelly House also appears among Mount Dora’s National Register historic places.

That is a lot of town history in one building. It connects the lakefront visitor era, the early charter years, downtown streets, and the older house styles that make Mount Dora feel different from a newer subdivision map. Even if you only pass it on foot, the house helps explain why the city feels layered.

For a resident or buyer, it is also a reason to slow down around older districts. Check the city historic pages before planning exterior work nearby. Mount Dora’s charm is not only paint colors and porches. It can come with historic maps, design review, older materials, repair questions, and local pride written into the streets.
