Daytona's Streamline Hotel helped organize NASCAR

NASCAR's organizing story runs through Daytona Beach, where racing leaders gathered at the Streamline Hotel in 1947.

Daytona Beach did not just host racing. It helped turn racing into something organized.

In December 1947, Bill France and other racing people met at the Streamline Hotel in Daytona Beach to form NASCAR. The idea was to bring stock-car racing under a clearer set of rules, promotion, and leadership. That meeting gave a loose racing world a name and a structure.

The beach had already been part of speed history. Cars raced on sand, crowds came to watch, and the area had a reputation for fast machines before the big speedway became the main image. The Streamline Hotel story sits in that middle place between beach racing and the modern sport.

For Daytona, this is why racing history feels spread around town. It is not only the speedway. It is the beach, the hotels, old garages, local roads, and the people who saw a sport taking shape.

If you visit for the story, check current access around the hotel area and any racing-history stops before you go. Event weekends can change traffic, parking, and the feel of the whole beachside area.
