Celery Fields puts Sarasota's stormwater on a birding hill

The Celery Fields gives Sarasota County a stormwater facility, boardwalks, observation decks, birding, and a wide-open inland view.

The Celery Fields is one of Sarasota’s better lessons in how practical land can become memorable land.

Sarasota County Parks lists boardwalks, observation decks, Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail connection, and the Sarasota Audubon Nature Center. Sarasota Audubon describes the larger site as county-owned and tied to flood mitigation and stormwater management. Put those together, and the place becomes more than a birding stop. It is water work with a view.

That is what makes it stick. Sarasota can be pictured through beaches, downtown, arts, and barrier islands. The Celery Fields adds an inland hill, open sky, marshy edges, birds, walkers, and a reminder that managing water is part of local life.

Check the county page before going. Park status, boardwalk access, programs, parking, and rules can change. Bring shade, water, and patience. The best part may be standing up high and seeing a different Sarasota spread out below you.
