Cassadaga is Volusia's spiritualist camp story

Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp is a small Volusia County community with a religious, historic, and curious old-Florida feel.

Cassadaga is easy to flatten into a joke about psychics. The real place is more interesting than that.

The Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp Meeting Association formed in 1894. The community traces its roots to George Colby, Lily Dale in New York, and a winter Spiritualist camp in Central Florida. The camp later became a National Register historic district. People still live, gather, hold services, and host events there.

That makes Cassadaga different from a normal roadside stop. Some visitors come because they are curious. Some come because they believe. Some come because the place has old houses, quiet streets, and a local identity you do not find in many other Florida towns.

The best way to approach it is with manners. This is not a theme park set. People live and worship there. If you go, check the camp’s event schedule, visitor details, and parking information. If you book a service, read the camp information first and understand what you are paying for.

Cassadaga shows a side of Florida people sometimes miss. The state has beaches and busy cities, yes, but it also has small communities built around belief, winter travel, and the search for meaning.
