Broward evacuation plans are coast and mobile home checks

Broward evacuation planning is not just a beach-town question.

Coastal areas, low or tidal land, barrier islands, and mobile homes can all be part of the plan. Broward’s Plan A generally covers mobile homes across the county. For a Category 1 or 2 storm, it also covers at-risk land east of the Intracoastal Waterway. Plan B generally adds land east of U.S. 1 for a Category 3 or stronger storm.

Those are planning guides, not a forecast of the next order. The county can change the area for the storm at hand. A person in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pompano Beach, Weston, or an inland city should therefore follow the current county notice rather than a neighbor’s memory.

Evacuation zones and flood zones do different jobs. A flood map helps with home and insurance questions, while an evacuation order tells people when to move for a storm. A shelter plan is another piece, especially for pets, health needs, rides, or family members who need more help.

Before storm season, check Broward’s evacuation information. Write down where you would go and which route you would try first. When a storm approaches, use the current county order to settle whether your home is included.
